21-րդ դարում շատ հեշտ է պարզել թե՛ երեխայի սեռը, թե՛ հղի լինելու փաստը: Հետաքրքիր է, թե ինչպես են այդ հրաշալի լուրի մասին իմացել նախկինում տարբեր քաղաքակրթություն ունեցող մարդիկ:

Հին Բաբելոն

Հենց Հին Բաբելոնում են առաջին անգամ ստեղծվել հղիության առաջին թեստերը: Հղիությունը պարզելու համար այծի մորթուց տամպոն էին պատրաստում, որի բաղադրության մեջ մտնում էր տարբեր տեսակի խոտաբույսերի հյութեր: Տամպոնը տեղադրում էին կնոջ հեշտոցում և մի քանի օր թողում էին այն այնտեղ: Դրանից հետո տամպոնը հանում ու դնում էին հանքային աղերի լուծույթի մեջ: Այդ ջուրը փոխում էր տամպոնի գույնը. հղիության դեպքում տամպոնը կարմրում էր, եթե հղիություն չկար, կանաչում էր:

Հին Եգիպտոս

Մեր օրեր հասած հին եգիպտական պապիրուսների մեջ կան վկայություններ, որոնք ասում են, թե այդ ժամանակ ինչպես են որոշել երեխայի սեռն ու հղիության առկայությունը:

Առաջին միջոցի համաձայն՝ կանայք միզում էին երկու գարու և ցորենի վրա: Եթե դրանից հետո գարին սկսում էր լավ աճել, ուրեմն երեխան տղա է, իսկ եթե ցորենն է լավ աճում, ուրեմն երեխան աղջիկ է: Եթե այդ հացահատիկներից ոչ մեկը չէր աճում, նշանակում էր՝ կինը հղի չէ: Այդ կապակցությամբ մեր օրերում հետազոտություն է անցկացվել, որով հաստատվել է հղիության ստուգման այս մեթոդը:

Երկրորդ միջոց

Առաջարկում էին խմել կնոջ կաթ: Եթե կնոջ մոտ այդ կաթը խմելուց հետո սրտխառնոց էր առաջանում, ուրեմն նա հղի էր:

Հին Իսրայել

Հրեա կանայք հանում էին կոշիկները և քայլում էին խոտի վրա: Եթե խոտի վրա խորը ոտնահետք էր մնում, ապա, անկասկած, կինը հղի էր:

Հին Հունաստան

Հին Հունաստանում մարդիկ արդեն զարգացած էին: Բժիշկները հղիությունն արձանագրում էին այն դեպքում, երբ կնոջ մոտ բացակայում էր դաշտանային ցիկլը, ուտելու ախորժակը, կար սրտխառնոց, ու դեմքին առաջանում էին դեղին բծեր:
