Alexey Shor's music is always warmly received in Armenia

Culture

The music of Maltese contemporary composer Alexey Shor was first performed on the Armenian stage within the framework of "Armenia" International Festival in 2017. It was its first introductionto the Armenian music lovers. Later, meetings with the Armenian audience continued, and it is already well acquainted with the modern composer’s art. His symphonic and chamber works have been performed and his ballet has been staged here. World premieres of Shor's works have even been presented on the Armenian stage - all in crowded halls and accompanied by a loud ovation.

This mutual love and warmth of the composer and the Armenian audience is not accidental. Alexey Shor has a lot in common with Armenia. He grew up hearing beautiful stories about Armenia. His fatherlived in the Armenian village of Pushkino inthe Lori region and in Gyumri until he was 12. Alexey Shor, already a well-known composer, has visited Armenia with his father many times, and they havebeen in the places where his father once lived.

Armenian audience’s latest meeting with Shor took place within the framework of the “Music 20” festival recently held in Yerevan. Fans of classical music had the opportunity to listen to his "Crystal Palace" suite ‚"Musical Pilgrimage” written for cello and string orchestra‚ "Four Seasons of Manhattan” for violin and orchestra, “From My Bookshelf” piano concerto, “Seascapes” and other works.Shor’s works written in the symphonic and chamber genres were presented by well-known soloists in Yerevan.

They excite the listeners with their melodiousness and delicacy. The sounds seem to create images that transfer a mysterious sense of seascapes and the seasonsto the listener. Shor’s emotional melodies were performed in Yerevan by violinists Andrey Baranov, Haik Kazazyan, pianists Nikita Mndoyants, Andrey Gugnin, clarinetist Igor Fedorov, cellist Alexander Ramm and other soloists.

In Yerevan, the concerts that include Shor's works are always well-attended, which suggests that they are anticipated. We think that the next meeting with the Armenian audiencewon’t make us wait too long‚ and soon not only will we be able to listen to theMaltese composer’s music, but he will be hosted in our country, which, as he confesses, he loves so much.

As a reminder, the “Music 20” International Festival in Yerevan was organized by the European Foundation for Support of Culture and the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex, and the official orchestra of the festival was the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra led by conductor Sergey Smbatyan.
