Ես չեմ այն մարդը, որ պետք է գնահատական տա Վազգեն Մանուկյանի անցած ճանապարհին։ Այս մասին այսօր՝ դեկտեմբերի 11-ին, «ՍիվիլՆեթին» տված հարցազրույցի ժամանակ ասել է ՀՀ նախագահ Արմեն Սարգսյանը։

«Ես չեմ այն մարդը, որ պետք է գնահատական տա Վազգեն Մանուկյանի անցած ճանապարհին, ես Չարենցի դպրոցում աշակերտ էի, որ Վազգեն Մանուկյանը Ամիրյան փողոցով ցույցով կազմակերպված գնում էր դեպի հրապարակ՝ 1965 թվականին: Ես դա գիտեմ, որովհետեւ հետագայում Վազգեն Մանուկյանը եւ իր ընկերների հետ շփվել եմ, երբ համալսարանում էի աշխատում եւ սովորում, ես չպիտի իրեն գնահատական տամ: Վազգեն Մանուկանը եղել է ղարաբաղյան շարժման ղեկավարներից եւ իրեն շատ լավ հիշում եմ, երբ ինքը հարթակի վրա էր, իսկ ես՝ հրապարակում: Վազգեն Մանուկյանը մեր անկախ երկրի առաջին վարչապետն է եղել , ՊՆ նախարարը է եղել եւ իր անցած ճանապարհը խոսում է իր մասին: Իր հետ շփվել եմ երկուսուկես տարի առաջ՝ ապրիլյան իրադարձությունների ժամանակ, երբ ինքը Հանրային խորհրդի նախագահն էր եւ հանդիպումները ցույց էին տաիս, որ գործ ունեմ մի մարդու հետ, ով շատ սրտացավ է, եռանդագին եւ ունի հստակ իր պատկերացումները եւ նաեւ ունի շատ մեծ որակ՝ լսելու ունակություն»,- ասել է նա:

ՀՀ նախագահը ընդգծել է, որ 2,5 տարի առաջ, երբ սկսվեց հեղափոխության շարժումը, վտանգ կար, որ ապրիլի 24-ին, երբ ժողովուրդի մեծ մասը գնա հուշարձան՝ կարող են  ընդհարումներ  եւ անկանխատեսելի արդյունքներ լինել: Այդպիսով Սերժ Սարգսյանը որոշեց հրաժարականը տալ, որպեսզի ապրիլի 24-ին  ընդհարում չլինի, ինչը նա համարում է դիվանագիտական եւ բարոյական հաղթանակ, քանի որ մենք աշխարհին ապացուցեցինք, որ այն ժողովուրդն ենք, որ մեր արժեքները չենք վաճառում եւ կարողանում ենք միասնություն գտնել:
