Ես մի քանի անգամ արդեն հանդիպել էի Նյու Յորքի բիզնես քոլեջում ուսանող Ջոշ անունով այդ երիտասարդի հետ:
Նա այնքան էլ գրավիչ չէր, բայց ինձ կրքոտ թվաց, իսկ իմ նպատակն էր մոռանալ նախկին ընկերոջս: Ուստի ընդունեցի իր տանը կոկտեյլ խմելու, այնուհետև դրսում ճաշելու նրա հրավերը: Նա վաղուց արդեն 20 տարեկան չէր, սակայն դեռ ապրում էր բարձր կուրսի ուսանողներով լի հանրակացարանում: Երբ հասա այնտեղ, անվտանգության աշխատակիցը զանգահարեց նրան՝ ինձ ներս թողնելու համար:
Նա չպատասխանեց, ուստի անվտանգության աշխատակիցը շարունակեց զանգահարել: Ես նույնպես նրան գրեցի... Պատասխան չկար: Տասնհինգ րոպե անց պատրաստվում էի հեռանալ, երբ Ջոշը զանգահարեց՝ ասելով, որ հեռախոսով էր խոսում, սակայն իջնում է ինձ դիմավորելու: Նա շփոթված տեսք ուներ։ Բարձրացանք վերև։ Նա շարունակեց հեռախոսազրույցը ընկերոջ հետ՝ քննարկելով հաջորդ օրը կայանալիք իրենց ճանապարհորդությունը դեպի Վեգաս:
Երբ Ջոշը վերջապես ավարտեց հեռախոսազրույցը, գնացինք ճաշելու, և ամեն ինչ փոխվեց: Անվերջ կատակում էինք։ Նա նույնիսկ սկսեց խոսել ապագայի մասին՝ առաջարկելով հիանալի ռեստորաններ այցելել միասին: Իսկ որպեսզի ստիպված չլինեմ շուտ վերադառնալ Նյու Ջերսի, ուր այդ ժամանակ ապրում էի, առաջարկեց գիշերել իր մոտ, և ես համաձայնեցի: Հասանք տուն և սկսեցինք միասին պատրաստել անկողինը։ Հանկարծ նա անսպասելիորեն մերկացավ: Դա փոքր-ինչ զարմանալի թվաց ինձ, սակայն միայն մի պահ (արդեն ասել եմ, որ ցանկանում էի մոռանալ նախկին ընկերոջս, իսկ այս տղան այնքան կրքոտ էր):
Բայց ավաղ... նա նրա մոտ ոչինչ չստացվեց: Իրավիճակը որևէ կերպ շտկելու փոխարեն, նա հագնվեց, սկսեց հավաքել իր իրերը, ինձ էլ հարցրեց, թե որ գնացքով պետք է տուն վերադառնամ: Ապշած էի: Ի՞նչ պատահեց այն հաճելի տղային, ով առաջարկել էր ինձ գիշերել իր տանը: Հետո նա կրկին զանգահարեց ընկերոջը՝ Վեգասի մասին խոսելու, և շարժումներով հասկացրեց ինձ, որ պետք է դեռ ճամպրուկը դասավորի: Ինչպիսի՛ հիմարություն:
Այնքան հիասթափված էի, որ իսկույն հագնվեցի ու հեռացա: Նախասրահում այդ նույն անվտանգության աշխատակիցն ասաց, որ յուրաքանչյուրը պետք է անձամբ իր հյուրին ճանապարհի, ուստի կրկին զանգահարեցինք Ջոշին: Նա չպատասխանեց (դեժավյու), և ես ստիպված էի նորից բարձրանալ նրա սենյակ։ Թակեցի դուռը և արդեն կոպիտ ասացի, որ պետք է հաստատի, որպեսզի ես հեռանամ: Նրա պատասխա՞նը. «Ես իսկապես շատ զբաղված եմ»:
Այո՛, նա նայեց ուղիղ աչքերիս և ասաց դա: Ասացի, որ դա նշանակում է, որ չեմ կարող գնալ։ Նա դժկամությամբ իջավ ինձ հետ: Համոզված եմ, որ իմ հեռանալուց հետո իր զայրույթը արտահայտեց անվտանգության աշխատակցի մոտ, ու չնայած դրան, նա ինձ ասաց, որ կզանգահարի Վեգասից վերադառնալուց հետո: Խոաքեր չունեի: Ես ուշացա Նյու Ջերսի մեկնող գնացքից և ստիպված էի մեկ ժամ սպասել Փենսիլվանիայի կայարանում՝ ուտելով մորաքույր Էննիի պատրաստած ոլորաբլիթը և վերհիշելով տեղի ունեցածը: Ջոշն այլևս երբեք ինձ չզանգահարեց, սակայն ամիսներ անց նամակ ուղարկեց LinkedIn-ով. Առաջարկում էր հանդիպել: Ռոմանտիկ է:
