Ապրիլի 10-ին, ժամը 20.50-ին, ոստիկանություն զանգած քաղաքացին հայտնել էր, որ Երևանի Վերֆելի փողոցի խանութներից մեկում կրակոցներ են հնչել։ Որոշ ժամանակ անց ոստիկանությունում ահազանգ ստացվեց բժշկական կենտրոնից։ Հայտնում էին, որ հրազենային վիրավորումով բուժօգնության է տեղափոխվել մի տղամարդ։

Իրավապահները դեպքի վայրում իրականացրին անհրաժեշտ միջոցառումներ։ Սպանության փորձի և ապօրինի զենք կրելու, պահելու և օգտագործելու հատկանիշներով հարուցվեց քրեական գործ։

Կարճ ժամանակ անց քրեական ոստիկանության գլխավոր վարչությունում օպերատիվ տեղեկություններ ստացվեցին հանցագործությունը կատարած անձի վերաբերյալ։ Ճշտվեց կասկածյալի ինքնությունը։

Ապրիլի 17-ին նրա նկատմամբ հայտարարվեց հետախուզում։

Հետախուզվողին հայտնաբերելու ուղղությամբ ձեռնարկվող ծավալուն միջոցառումները արդյունք տվեցին ապրիլի 29-ին։ Քրեական ոստիկանության գլխավոր վարչության ծառայողները հետախուզվողին հայտնաբերեցին Կոտայքի մարզի Արագյուղ համայնքի տներից մեկում։ Նա բերման ենթարկվեց ոստիկանության Մալաթիայի բաժին, ապա տեղափոխվեց քրեակատարողական հիմնարկ։
