«Բարսելոնայի» նախագահ Ժոան Լապորտան ասել է, որ Լիոնել Մեսսին կարող էր վերադառնալ կատալոնական ակումբ այս ամառ, բայց նախապատվությունը տվեց «Ինտեր Մայամիին», քանի որ նրա վրա ճնշումներ չեն գործադրվի, ինչպես «Պարի Սեն Ժերմենում» խաղալու ժամանակ էր: Լապորտայի խոսքերը փոխանցում է Mundo Deportivo-ն։

«Լեոն ուզում էր, հայրիկն էլ, բայց մեր ռիթմերը չհամընկան։ Մենք չէինք ուզում խնդիրներ ունենալ ֆեյրփլեյի հետ և ասացինք, որ երբ մեզ մոտ ամեն ինչ կարգին լինի, կտեղեկացնենք նրանց: Հետո որոշ ժամանակ անցավ, պայմանագիրը լիովին համաձայնեցված էր, բայց նրա հայրը մեզ ասաց, որ Մեսսին ընտրել է «Ինտեր Մայամիին», քանի որ նա մի քանի դժվարին մրցաշրջաններ է անցկացրել ՊՍԺ-ում, որտեղ նրա վրա ճնշում է եղել, որ նա ավելի հանգիստ կլինի ՄԼՍ-ում։

Հունիսի 3-ին Մեսսին վերջին հանդիպումն անցկացրեց «Պարի Սեն Ժերմենի» կազմում՝ խաղադաշտ դուրս գալով «Կլերմոնի» դեմ Ֆրանսիայի առաջնության 38-րդ տուրում։ Ֆուտբոլիստի պայմանագիրը փարիզցիների հետ ավարտվել է հունիսին, նա ազատ գործակալի կարգավիճակով տեղափոխվել է «Ինտեր Մայամի»։
