ԵԽ-ում ելույթ ունենալով՝ Նիկոլը եվրոպացիներին հավաստիացրել է, որ Հայաստանը պատրաստ է Արևմուտքին մերձենալ այնքան, որքան Արևմուտքը կցանկանա՝ միաժամանակ տրտնջալով, որ ՀԱՊԿ-ը Հայաստանին թողել է միայնակ,որ ՌԴ-ն չկատարեց իր դաշնակցային պարտավրությունները, ռուս խաղաղապահների անգործության պատճառով արցախցիները լքեցին իրենց հայրենիքը և այլն: Ավելին՝ Նիկոլը Ռուաստանին մեղադրել է Հայաստանում իշխանափոխություն իրականացնելու վերաբերյալ պլաններ ունենալու համար: Ըստ նրա՝ ՀՀ–ի դաշնակիցները ոչ միայն չեն օգնել, այլև իշխանությունը տապալելու կոչեր են արել, բայց անհաջող, քանի որ իրեն հաջողվել է պահպանել Հայաստանի անկախությունը:Միով բանիվ՝ Նիկոլը ԵԽ-ում դեմարշի է ենթարկել ՌԴ-ին՝ տալով եվրոպացիներին հավատարմության երդում:

Կարևոր է հասկանալ, թե ինչու է Նիկոլը նման կերպ վարվել, հանուն հայրենիքի՞, թե՞ բոլորովին այլ բանի:

Իրականում պարզից էլ պարզ է, որ Արևմուտքի «թրի տակով անցնելու» Նիկոլի պատրաստակամությունը պայմանավորված է բացառապես մեկ բանով՝ իշխանության պահպանման. նրա այն հայտարարությունը կամ տրտունջքը, թե Մոսկվան նպատակ ունի՝ Հայաստանում իշխանափոխություն անելու, մատնում է այն իրական դրդապատճառը, որը ստիպել է Նիկոլին հանձնվել Արևմուտքին: Խնդրն այն է, որ Արևմուտքը ցայսօր բացի հայտարարություններից կամ ինչ-որ բանաձևերից, ուրիշ ոչինչ չի արել, մտահոգություն հայտնելուց զատ գործնական քայլերի չի դիմել, խոսք էլ չի գնում այն մասին, որ Իլհամին կարող է գործնականում պատժել: Օրինակ՝ նույն Ռոբերտա Մեցոլան խուսափել է պատասխանել այն հարցին, թե արդյոք իր ղեկավարած կառույցը դիտարկո՞ւմ է պատժամիջոցներ՝ Ադրբեջանի դեմ: Նա, ինչպես ասում են, խոսքը գցել է կտուրն ու խուսանավել: Ասել կուզի՝ Նիկոլի բուռն ցանկությունը՝ Հայաստանը դնելու Արևմուտքի տրամադրության տակ, չի երաշխավորելու գործնականում Հայաստանի անվտանգությունը: Հայտարարություններ՝ որքան ասես, իսկ գործնական, ռեալ քայլեր չի կարելի ակնկալել, քանի որ Հայաստանը մեծ խաղացողներին մի բանի համար է պետք՝ «ժերտվա տալու». Մոսկվան տվեց, հիմա էլ Արևմուտքն է տալու:

Նիկոլը թքած ունի Հայաստանի վրա էլ, հայերիս էլ. կարևորն իր աթոռն է, իսկ կոնկրետ իրեն երաշխիքներ տրամարելու հարցում եվրոպացիներն իսկապես առատաձեռն են և պատրաստ են Աննային ընդունել: Նիկոլին դա էլ է բավարար՝ Ռուսաստանի քթի տակ Հայաստանից նոր Ուկրաինա կերտելու, օտարի շահի համար բոլորիս փուռը տալու:
