ՄԱԿ-ի մանկական հիմնադրամը հանքանյութերով հարուստ Արևելյան Կոնգոյի տարածաշրջանում հակամարտող երկու կողմի ներկայացուցիչներին մեղադրել է վերջին շաբաթների ընթացքում բազմաթիվ երեխաների բռնաբարության համար. այս մասին գրում է Associated Press-ը՝  մանրամասնելով, որ վերջին շրջանում զինված ապստամբները ընդլայնում են իրենց վերահսկողության տակ գտնվող տարածքը և դուրս մղում կառավարական ուժերին:

Մեղադրանքը հնչել է այն ֆոնին, երբ տարածաշրջանում լարվածության նվազման նշաններ չեն երևում: ՅՈՒՆԻՍԵՖ-ը հայտարարել է, որ երեխաներին բռնաբարած հանցագործները, ըստ երևույթին, եղել են ինչպես M23 ապստամբներից, այնպես էլ նրանց դեմ պայքարող կառավարական ուժերից:

«Հյուսիսային և հարավային Կիվու նահանգներում մենք սարսափելի տեղեկություններ ենք ստանում հակամարտող կողմերի ներկայացուցիչների կողմից երեխաների նկատմամբ կոպիտ խախտումների մասին, ներառյալ բռնաբարություն և սեռական բռնության այլ ձևերը... Մի մայր մեր աշխատակիցներին պատմել է, թե ինչպես են իր վեց դուստրերը, որոնցից ամենափոքրն ընդամենը 12 տարեկան է, սնունդ փնտրելիս պարբերաբար բռնաբարվել են զինված մարդկանց կողմից», - ասել է ՅՈՒՆԻՍԵՖ-ի գործադիր տնօրեն Քեթրին Ռասելը:

Տարածաշրջանի առողջապահական հաստատությունները մեկ շաբաթվա ընթացքում՝ հունվարի 27-ից մինչև փետրվարի 2-ը, գրանցել են բռնաբարության 572 դեպք, ինչը ավելի քան հինգ անգամ ավել է նախորդ շաբաթվա համեմատ, Associated Press-ին ասել է Կոնգոյում ՅՈՒՆԻՍԵՖ-ի հաղորդակցության բաժնի ղեկավար Լիան Գաթչերը:

Նրանցից 170-ը երեխաներ էին, հավելել է նա: Բռնաբարություններն իրականացրել են զինված մարդիկ, սակայն պարզ չէ, թե կոնկրետ որ զինված խմբին կամ բանակին են պատկանում դրանք, ընդգծել է Գաթչերը:

«Կասկածներ կան, որ հակամարտող բոլոր կողմերը նման սեռական բռնություն են գործել», - հավելել է նա։

Ռուանդայի կողմից աջակցվող M23 ապստամբներն ամենահայտնին են ավելի քան 100 զինված խմբավորումներից, որոնք պայքարում են Կոնգոյի հանքանյութերով հարուստ արևելյան տարածաշրջանը վերահսկելու համար. այս հակամարտությունը տասնամյակներ է շարունակվում և ստեղծել է աշխարհի ամենամեծ հումանիտար ճգնաժամերից մեկը: Հունվարի վերջին ապստամբները գրավել են Գոման՝ տարածաշրջանի ամենամեծ քաղաքը:
