Իրանի Իսլամական հեղափոխության պահապանների կորպուսի (ԻՀՊԿ, զինված ուժերի էլիտար ստորաբաժանումներ) զինվորականները մի քանի օր առաջ կանխել են Իսրայելի կողմից Իրանի արտաքին գործերի նախարար Աբբաս Արաղչիի դեմ մահափորձը, X-ում հայտարարել է նախարարի խորհրդական Մոհամմադ Հոսեյն Ռանջբարանը Ժնևում Իրանի և «եվրոպական եռյակի» (Մեծ Բրիտանիա, Ֆրանսիա, Գերմանիա) միջև բանակցություններից առաջ: Այս մասին գրում է ՌԻԱ «Նովոստի»-ն:

Ավելի վաղ Իրանի արտաքին գործերի նախարարությունը հայտարարել էր, որ Իսլամական Հանրապետությունը ուրբաթ Ժնևում բանակցություններ կանցկացնի ԵՄ-3-ի (Մեծ Բրիտանիա, Ֆրանսիա, Գերմանիա) հետ։ Բանակցությունները կկենտրոնանան Իրանի միջուկային ծրագրի վրա՝ Թեհրանի և Թել Ավիվի միջև հակամարտության սրման ֆոնին։
