Почти 50 человек стали жертвами урагана «Мелисса» в странах Карибского бассейна

Ураган «Мелисса» унес жизни почти 50 человек на Ямайке и Гаити, сообщает в пятницу Associated Press.

По последним данным, в результате стихии погибли 19 человек на Ямайке, 30 - на Гаити. При этом спасатели в обеих странах не исключают, что число жертв может вырасти, так как поисковые работы не завершены.

По данным агентства ЭФЭ, еще 18 человек на Гаити считаются пропавшими без вести, несколько тысяч человек пока находятся в местах временного размещения, так как были эвакуированы из своих домов на юге и юго-востоке страны.

В министерстве энергетики Ямайки сообщили, что около 500 тыс. человек по-прежнему остаются без электроэнергии, наблюдаются проблемы с телефонной связью. Ураган нанес значительный ущерб инфраструктуре страны.

Спасатели на Кубе также продолжают ликвидировать последствия стихии, при этом о жертвах там не сообщается. Многие районы затоплены, есть повреждения домов и других зданий. В общей сложности в восточной части Кубы эвакуировали свыше 730 тыс. человек.

В настоящее время «Мелиссе» присвоена вторая категория по пятибалльной шкале Саффира-Симпсона, максимальная скорость устойчивого ветра составляет около 165 км/ч. Эпицентр урагана находится в 420 км западнее Бермудских островов.
