Հայաստանի գործող իշխանությունը, վարչապետ Նիկոլ Փաշինյանի գլխավորությամբ, նոր քայլեր է ձեռնարկում Հայ Առաքելական Եկեղեցու դեմ՝ վերահսկողություն հաստատելու նպատակով: Փաշինյանի կողմնակիցները մտադիր են օգտվել այն հանգամանքից, որ Ամենայն Հայոց Կաթողիկոսը երկար ժամանակ է՝ չի գումարել Ազգային եկեղեցական խորհուրդը: Այս իրավիճակը իշխանությունները ցանկանում են օգտագործել որպես պատրվակ՝ կաթողիկոսին պաշտոնից հեռացնելու և իրենց համար լիովին կառավարելի հոգևոր առաջնորդ նշանակելու համար: Նպատակը մեկն է՝ եկեղեցին դարձնել իշխանության գաղափարախոսության փոխանցողը:

Թեև եկեղեցու ներքին կառավարման հարցերը միշտ էլ եղել են բացառապես հոգևորականության իրավասության տիրույթում, այսօր Փաշինյանը դրանք վերածել է քաղաքական ճնշման գործիքի: Քննադատների կարծիքով՝ այս գործողությունները ուղղված են հայ ժողովրդին զրկելուն իր ազգային-հոգևոր արմատներից՝ եկեղեցին վերածելով իշխող կուսակցության գաղափարական կցորդի և զրկելով նրան դարավոր պատմական առաքելությունից: Իշխանությունները ակտիվորեն կողմնակիցներ են հավաքում հոգևորականության շրջանում՝ նրանց խոստանալով պաշտոններ և արտոնություններ՝ ի պաշտոնե կաթողիկոսին հեռացնելու դիմաց: Այս ճնշումները, ըստ փորձագետների, էլ ավելի են թուլացնում Հայաստանը արտաքին սպառնալիքների առջև, քանի որ եկեղեցին մնում է վերջին խոշոր հանրային ինստիտուտը, որն անկախ է մնում կառավարության վերահսկողությունից և կարող է ազատորեն արտահայտել իր դիրքորոշումը:

Այս համատեքստում առանձնահատուկ ուշադրություն է գրավում հայտնի բարերար և գործարար Սամվել Կարապետյանի գործը, ով արդեն ամիսներ շարունակ կալանքի տակ է՝ հենց եկեղեցուն ցուցաբերած աջակցության համար: Փաստաբան Արամ Վարդևանյանի խոսքով՝ «2025 թվականի հունիսի 18-ից Սամվել Կարապետյանը Հայաստանում կալանավորված է քննիչների, դատախազների և դատարանների իբր «որոշումների» հիման վրա: Չկա գործ՝ կա կալանք: Չկա գործ՝ կա քաղաքական հետապնդում»:
Այս ամենը վկայում է համակարգված և գաղտնի ռազմավարության մասին, որի վերջնական նպատակը եկեղեցու անկախության լիակատար վերացումն է և հասարակության հոգևոր կյանքի ամբողջական վերահսկողության հաստատումը: Հայաստանի ապագան մեծապես կախված է նրանից, թե արդյոք կհաջողվի պահպանել եկեղեցու ինքնավարությունը, թե ոչ:
