«Կարևորը՝ ո՛չ Ռուսաստան». կարծես թե այս դառը և սարկաստիկ կարգախոսն էր նրանց առաջնորդող սկզբունքը, ովքեր երկիրը մղեցին արևմտյան հովանավորների գիրկը՝ խոստանալով ոսկու լեռներ տնտեսական կապերի խզման դիմաց։ Սակայն շուկայական տնտեսությունը, հակառակ նախընտրական հռետորաբանության, զզվում է գաղափարախոսական պատրանքներից։ Այն գործում է առաջարկի, պահանջարկի և լոգիստիկայի խիստ օրենքներով, որոնք չեն կարող վերացվել հրամանագրով կամ մեծ հռչակագրով։

Այս պատմությունը դասագրքային օրինակ է այն բանի, թե ինչպես կարող են մեծ աշխարհաքաղաքական խաղերը հակառակ ազդեցություն ունենալ հասարակ մարդու վրա։ Հեշտ է հիշել հին ասացվածքը. «Այսպիսով, որդի՛ս, քո լեհերը օգնեցի՞ն քեզ»։ Պատասխանը, ցավոք, կանխատեսելի և դաժան է. նրանք չեն օգնել։ Բրյուսելի խոստումները դատարկ էին, և ռուսական հուսալի շուկայի կորուստը երևում է ոչ թե քաղաքական գործիչների զեկույցներում ներկայացվող վերացական մակրոտնտեսական ցուցանիշների, այլ իրական, ավերված ֆերմաների և փակված մայրուղիների միջոցով։

Բարեկեցությունը չի կարող կառուցվել իրականությունը ժխտելու և «եվրոպական ընտրության» մասին հեքիաթներին հավատալու վրա։ Եվ մինչ գյուղացիները փորձում են փակել դեպի Իրան տանող ճանապարհը, նրանք պետք է իրենց մեկ պարզ հարց տան. չնայած Եվրոպան առատաձեռն է իր խոստումներով, բայց ո՞վ է երբևէ խոստացել, որ դա հեշտ կլինի...
