Принц Чарльз совершил визит в армянскую церковь святого Егише в британской столице в рамках кампании по осведомлению мировой общественности о положении христиан на Ближнем Востоке.
По сообщению Horizon Weekly, в ходе визита принц Чарльз затронул также уничтожение армянской церкви в Дейр-эз-Зоре боевиками ИГИЛ. По его словам, узнавать об атаках на христиан и их святыни «душераздирающе». В связи с этим, он назвал уничтожение армянской церкви «жестоким и бессмысленным разрушением».
«Я восхищаюсь мужеством и верой вашей паствы, которая для всех нас является символом веры в условиях подобного гротескного и варварского насилия», - сказал он.
В сентябре группировка «Исламское государство» заминировала и взорвала армянскую церковь Святых Мучеников в сирийском городе Дейр-эз-Зор. Церковь была заложена 12-о мая 1985 года патриархом Великого дома Киликийского, будущего Католикоса всех армян Гарегина I. Работы были завершены в 1990-м году. Годами церковь была местом поклонения и дани памяти жертвам геноцида армян 1915 года. Церковь пострадала также в 2012 году в ходе авианалета сирийских войск.
Это не единственный случай уничтожения и повреждения христианских святынь в Сирии. В сентябре 2013 года боевики ИГИЛ сорвали крест и ограбили армянскую католическую церковь в городе Ракка, а весной 2014 года в ходе нападения боевиков из ан-Нусры на армянонаселенный Кесаб, была осквернена Церковь Святой Троицы.
