Военные Пакистана заявили о ликвидации около 40 боевиков в ходе операции на пакистано-афганской границе.
Как сообщает агентство Ассошиэйтед Пресс со ссылкой на заявление командования армии Пакистана, в пятницу вечером в ходе совместной операции ВВС и наземных войск страны были уничтожены 39 боевиков.
Ранее сообщалось о ликвидации 23 боевиков во время авианалетов в районе Северного Вазиристана. Помимо этого, была уничтожена система подземных тоннелей, а также крупное хранилище оружия и боеприпасов.

Вооруженные силы Пакистана заявили 15 июня о начале "универсальной операции" под названием Зарб-е-Азб (Zarb-e-Azb) против боевиков "Аль-Каиды", "Талибана", "Исламского движения Восточного Туркестана" и "Исламского движения Узбекистана" на территории Северного Вазиристана. В спецоперации задействованы около 30 тысяч пакистанских военных. Всего с начала операции, по данным агентства, были уничтожены более 1,2 тысячи боевиков.
Боевики "Техрик-и-Талибан Пакистан" в прошлый вторник захватили школу в Пешаваре на северо-западе Пакистана. В результате теракта погибли не менее 148 человек, большинство из которых — учащиеся. Ранее представители талибов заявили, что мстили военным Пакистана, которые проводят операции против семей боевиков.
После теракта премьер-министр Пакистана Наваз Шариф принял решение отменить мораторий на смертную казнь. Власти Пакистана планируют в ближайшие несколько недель казнить около 500 осужденных за террористическую деятельность.
