Главным словом уходящего 2014 года испанские лингвисты признали selfi ("селфи"). Такое решение принял Фонд срочного испанского Fundeu BBVA, соучредителем которого является испанское новостное агентство EFE.
"Мы не ищем ни самое красивое, ни самое оригинальное, ни самое новое слово. Мы хотим, чтобы наше слово года, кроме того, что оно связано с современностью, а значит, широко используется в СМИ, имело бы определенный лингвистический интерес — или из-за словообразования или из-за силы проникновения в язык", — заявил генеральный директор Fundeu Хоакин Мульер (Joaquin Muller).
Год назад Fundeu рекомендовал использовать вместо английского "selfie" испанские аналоги — "autofoto" (автофотография) или "autorretrato" (автопортрет).
"У испанского языка огромные возможности, кроме создания или выбора альтернатив, и одна из них — адаптация нашей орфографической системы для слов, заимствованных из других языков. Очевидность повсеместного использования англицизма "selfi" заставила нас задуматься, что, отказавшись от нашего предыдущего совета использовать "автофотографию", было бы хорошо предложить адаптированный вариант, который, к тому же в этом случае не создаст проблем с точки зрения произношения или графического воспроизведения", — пояснил выбор лингвистов Мульер. Таким образом, в испанском варианте исчезла буква "e" на конце английского "selfie".
В конкурсе на слово 2014 года участвовали 13 слов, в том числе "эбола", "украинский", nomofobia ("номофобия", страх остаться без мобильного телефона), abdicar ("отрекаться от престола"), impago ("неуплата", "дефолт").
