Վրաստանի ներքին գործերի նախարար Ալեքսանդր Չիկաիձեն հունվարի 23-ին հրաժարական է տվել, տեղեկացնում է «Արմենպրես»-ը՝ հղում անելով «Նովոստի Գրուզիա»-ին:
«Իմ որոշումը պայմանավորված է նրանով, որ վերջին ժամանակներս մեղադրանքներ են հնչում այն մասին, որ ես իբր թաքցնում եմ Զուրաբ Վազագաշվիլիի սպանության մասնակիցներին: Չնայած այն բանին, որ այդ մեղադրանքը չի համապատասխանում իրականությանը, ես բարոյական պատասխանատվություն եմ զգում և թողնում եմ իմ զբաղեցրած պաշտոնը»,- ասված է Չիկաիձեի հայտարարության մեջ, որը հրապարակված է ՆԳ նախարարության կայքում:
Զուրաբ Վազագաշվիլիի գործը վերստին ակտուալ է դարձել այն բանից հետո, երբ հունվարի 20-ին նրա հայրը՝ Յուրի Վազագաշվիլին, զոհվեց Շիդա Քարթլիի տարածաշրջանի Կասպիի շրջանի Կարապիլա գյուղի գերեզմանատանը: Նախնական տվյալներով՝ պայթանյութը եղել է Զուրաբ Վազագաշվիլիի շիրմին դրված ծաղկամանում և պայթել է, երբ նրա հայրը փոխում էր ծաղիկները:
Զուրաբ Վազագաշվիլին և Ալեքսանդր Խուբուլովն սպանվել էին 2006 թվականի մայիսին Թբիլիսիի կենտրոնում այն անձանց ձերբակալման ոստիկանական գործողության ընթացքում, որոնց կասկածում էին հանցավոր գործունեության մեջ:
ՆԳ նախարարության տեղեկատվության համաձայն՝ հանցախումբը պատրաստվում էր ավազակային հարձակում կատարել Թբիլիսիի ընտանիքներից մեկի վրա: Գործողության ընթացքում զենք էր կիրառվել: 2007 թվականի ապրիլի 20-ին նախնական հետաքննությունը դադարեցվել էր այն բանի պատճառով, որ, ՆԳՆ-ի կարծիքով, «ոստիկանության աշխատակիցների կողմից հանցագործների ձերբակալման ժամանակ լիազորությունների վերազանցում չի եղել»: Հետաքննությունը հաստատված է համարել, որ Զուրաբ Վազագաշվիլին, Ալեքսանդր Խուբուլովը և Բոնդո Թոփուրիձեն զինված դիմադրություն են ցույց տվել ոստիկանության աշխատակիցներին, ինչից հետո վերջիններս պատասխան կրակ են բացել:
Իրավապաշտպանները, ընդդիմադիր կուսակցությունները, Վրաստանի օմբուդսմենն այն ժամանակ կասկածի ենթարկեցին ոստիկանների գործողությունների օրինաչափությունը և քանիցս կոչ են արել իշխանություններին՝ վերաքննել գործը: 2012 թվականի հոկտեմբերին «Վրացական երազանք» կոալիցիայի իշխանության գալուց հետո գործի հետաքննությունը վերսկսվեց:
