Тренировочный центр НАТО будет открыт в Грузии, при этом численность военных альянса в стране "будет минимальной".
Об этом сообщили накануне на брифинге в преддверии встречи министров обороны стран НАТО 5 февраля в Брюсселе.
"НАТО намерена открыть в Грузии военный тренировочный центр для стран НАТО и государств-партнеров. Это особенно ценно, поскольку Грузия имеет уникальное географическое положение", - пояснил представитель альянса. По его словам, этот вопрос будет обсуждаться на заседании Комиссии Грузия-НАТО, которая пройдет в Брюсселе во время общей встречи министров обороны.
Представитель организации, отвечая на вопрос корреспондента ТАСС, заверил, что уровень военного присутствия альянса на территории Грузии станет минимальным. По его словам, задачей военных будет подготовка учений, прием коллег из стран НАТО и государств-партнеров и логистика. При этом уточнить, идет ли речь о десятках, сотнях или тысячах человек, представитель альянса отказался.
На брифинге также было объявлено о планах провести в этом году военные учения в Грузии.
В конце января министр обороны Грузии Миндия Джанелидзе вместе с заместителем генсека НАТО Александром Вершбоу посетили базу в Вазиани, расположенную в 25 км от Тбилиси. Тогда Джанелидзе объявил, что на этом объекте могут разместить совместный с альянсом учебный центр.
Открытие таких центров предусмотрено пакетом договоренностей, одобренных на саммите альянса в Уэльсе в сентябре 2014 года. В этом месяце в Грузии ждут прибытия группы специалистов НАТО, которым предстоит определить, соответствует ли база в Вазиани необходимым требованиям.
