Շվեյցարիան ակնկալում էր, որ Թուրքիան Մեծ քսանյակի գագաթաժողովին (G-20) Ադրբեջանի փոխարեն իրեն կհրավիրեր: Այս մասին գրում է «Hurriyet Daily News» պարբերականը:

Երկու երկրների հարաբերություններն ավելի ակնառու կերպով սրվեցին 2003թ-ին` Շվեցարիայի խորհրդարանի կողմից Առաջին Համաշխարհային պատերազմի տարիներին հայերի ողբերգությունները որպես ցեղասպանություն ճանաչելու որոշման ֆոնին:
Հայկական հարցն ավելի մեծ գլխացավանք դարձավ երկու երկրների համար, երբ թուրք քաղաքական ակտիվիստ Դողու Փերինչեքը Շվեցարիայում հայտարարեց, որ 1915թ ողբերգությունը չպետք է որակվի որպես ցեղասպանություն: Փերիչեքին 2007թ-ին Շվեյցարիայի դատարանը մեղավոր ճանաչեց, ի պատասխան Թուրքիան չեղյալ հայտարարեց շվեցարիացի մի շարք նախարարների այցը Թուրքիա, այդ թվում այդ ժամանակվա ԱԳ նախարար Միշլին Քալմ Ռեյինը:
Սակայն հետաքրքրական է այն հանգամանքը, որ նույն տարում` 2007թ-ին, Շվեյցարիան ստանձնեց հայ-թուրքական հարաբերությունների հաշտեցման գլխավոր դերակատարի դերը:
Շվեյցարիայի միջնորդությամբ, Թուրքիան և Հայաստանը 2009-ին ստորագրեցին պատմական արձանագրությունները, որոնք նախատեսում են երկու երկրների միջև հարաբերությունների կարգավորում: Սակայն մինչև հիմա արձանագրությունները դեռ չեն իրագործվել:
Այս գործընթացը որևէ կերպ չազդեց Բեռն-Անկարա հարաբերությունների վրա. 2011թ-ին Միշլին Քալմ Ռեյինը, ով արդեն Շվեյցարիայի նախագահն էր, Թուրքիա այցելեց:
Այստեղ առավել նշանակալից է այն հանգամանքը, որ Փերինչեքը Էրգենեկոնի գործի շրջանակներում ձերբակալվել էր` Թուրքիայում հեղափոխություն իրականացնելու մեղադրանքով:
2013թ-ին ՄԻԵԴ-ը ի օգուտ Փերիչեքի որոշում կայացրեց և հայտարարեց, որ Շվեցարիան ոտնահարել է ազատ խոսքի իրավունքը:
Այս հարցում Թուրքիան պետք է հավելյալ շնորհակալություն հայտներ Շվեցարիային ու Փերիչեքին նման արդյունքի համար: Միգուցե Շվեցարիան ակնկալում էր Թուրքիայից որևէ պարգև ստանալ, օրինակ G-20 որպես պատվավոր հյուրի կարգավիճակ, քանի որ Անկարան 2015-ին ստանձնել է G-20 նախագահությունը:
Ըստ G-20 ընթացակարգի, նախագահող երկիրը կարող է հրավիրել իրեն ամենամոտ համարող բարեկամ երկրին և, ակնհայտորեն, Թուրքիայի համար նման երկիրը Ադրբեջանն է:
