Հունիսին Բաքվում անցկացվելիք Եվրոպական խաղերի մոտենալու հետ միջազգային մամուլը մեծացրել է Ադրբեջանում մարդու իրավունքների աղետալի վիճակի, ընդդիմադիրների, իրավապաշտպանների, իշխանություններին քննդատաող լրագրողների դեմ բռնաճնշումների նկատմամբ ուշադրությունը:
Միջազգային մամուլը գտնում է, որ մարդու իրավունքները կոպտորեն ոտնահարող և մոտ 100 քաղբանտարկյալներ ունեցող երկրին չի կարելի վստահել նման խաղերի անցկացումը:
Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը, նման մի հոդված էլ հրապարակել է գերմանական Suddeutsche Zeitung թերթը, որում Ադրբեջանի նախագահ Իլհամ Ալիևին բռնապետ է անվանել: «Բռնապետի երկրում վիճելի խաղեր» վերտառությամբ հոդվածում թերթը մեջբերել է Human Rights Watch և «Լրագրողներ առանց սահմանների» միջազգային իրավապաշտպան կազմակերպությունների' Ադրբեջանի վերաբերյալ զեկույցներից հատվածներ, որոնցում ասվում է, որ Ադրբեջանում իշխանության քննադատաները ձերբակալվում են, իսկ խոսքի և մամուլի ազատության վիճակի հետ կապված' Ադրբեջանը 180 երկրների մեջ զբաղեցնում է 160-րդ տեղը:
Նշելով, որ մարդու իրավունքների և ազատությունների պաշտպան Եվրոպայի օլիմպիական խաղերն անցկացվում են բռնապետ Ալիևի երկրում, թերթը գրել է, որ Ադրբեջանում ճանաչված հետազոտող լրագրող «Խադիջա Իսմայիլովայի ձերբակալության իրական պատճառը նախագահի ընտանիքի օֆշորային գոտիներում գաղտնի բիզնեսի հետ կապված բացահայտումներն են»: Թերթը հարցադրում է կատարում. «Ինչու՞ են առաջին Եվրոպական օլիմպիական խաղերն անցկացվում Բաքվում», և պատասխանում. «Որովհետև Ադրբեջանից բացի այլ թեկնածու չկար»: Թերթը միաժամանակ հիշեցնում է, որ Ադրբեջանը մի քանի անգամ ներկայացրել է իր թեկնածությունը 2015 և 2020 թվականներին անցկացվելիք Համաշխարհային օլիմպիական խաղեր անցկացնելու համար, սակայն, հաջողություն չի ունեցել:
