Տարեկան ավելի քան 8 մլն տոննա պլաստիկե աղբ է թափվում Համաշխարհային օվկիանոս՝ ոչնչացնելով նրա բացառիկ բուսական ու կենդանական աշխարհը և աղտոտելով լողափերն ու ծովափերը:
Ինչպես տեղեկացնում է «Արմենպրես»-ը, այս եզրակացությանն է հանգել մի խումբ ամերիկացի օվկիանոսագետ-գիտնականներ, որոնք իր հետազոտության արդյունքները հրապարակել է Science հանդեսում:
Վերլուծելով տարբեր վիճակագրական տվյալներ՝ մասնագետները հաշվել են, որ ամեն տարի աշխարհի 192 երկրներում կուտակվում է ընդհանուր առմամբ 275 մլն տոննա պլաստիկե աղբ, որի մոտավորապես 3 տոկոսը հայտնվում է ծովերում և օվկիանոսներում: Նման քանակությամբ պլաստիկե փաթեթները, շշերը, խաղալիքները և այլ մանր առարկաները կբավարարեն դրանք, խանութների մթերային ստանդարտ պարկերի մեջ լցնելով. մոլորակի բոլոր մայրցամաքների և կղզիների ափերի երկայնքով շարելու համար:
«Տվեք ցանկացած առարկայի անուն, և դուք կկարողանաք այն գտնել Համաշխարհային օվկիանոսի աղբի մեջ»,-նշել է զեկույցի հեղինակներից մեկը՝ Կարա Լավենդեր Լոուն, որն աշխատում է Մասաչուսեթսի նահանգի Ծովային հետազոտությունների գիտական ընկերակցությունում: Նրա կարծիքով՝ ծովի ջրերում հայտնված պլաստիկե իրերի քանակն արդեն այս տարի կարող է ավելանալ մինչև 9 մլն տոննա:
Որպեսզի դա տեղի չունենա, փորձագետներն առաջարկում են՝ զարգացնել մաքրման ինդուստրիան և աղբամշակումը, այդ թվում՝ կառավարությունների և միջազգային կազմակերպությունների կողմից ցուցաբերվող ֆինանսական աջակցության օգնությամբ: Մասնագետներն ասում են, որ այդ բնագավառում անհրաժեշտ է լրացուցիչ միջոցներ ներդնել, «հատկապես արագ զարգացող տնտեսությամբ երկրներում»:
Ըստ ամերիկացի գիտնականների գնահատումների՝ պլաստիկե աղբի ամենամեծ քանակությունը՝ 2,4 մլն տոննա կամ ընդհանուր ծավալի 30 տոկոսը, Համաշխարհային օվկիանոսում է հայտնվում Չինաստանից: «Գլխավոր աղտոտողների» ցուցակում նրան հաջորդում են Ինդոնեզիան, Ֆիլիպինները, Վիետնամը, Շրի Լանկան, Թաիլանդը, Եգիպտոսը, Մալայզիան, Նիգերիան և Բանգլադեշը:
Ինչպես նշում է ՏԱՍՍ-ը, արդյունաբերապես զարգացած երկրներից ծովային միջավայրը «աղտոտողների» առաջին քսանյակում տեղ են գտել Եվրամիության՝ դեպի ծով ելք ունեցող պետությունները և Միացյալ Նահանգները: Եվրոպացիները հայտնվել են 18-րդ տեղում, ԱՄՆ-ը՝ 20-րդ:
