The Huffington Post-ը հրապարակել է դաունի համախտանիշով տառապող երեխայի մոր բաց նամակն' ուղղված Հայաստանում նույն հիվանդությամբ ծնված Լեոյի հորը' նորզելանդացի Սամուել Ֆորեսթին: «Արմենպրես»-ի փոխանցմամբ' նամակի հեղինակ Մարիա Նիկոլսը Լեոյի հայրիկին հիշեցրել է նվիրատվությունների միջոցով հավաքված գումարով նույն համախտանիշն ունեցող Հայաստանի մյուս փոքրիկներին օգնելու խոստման մասին:
Նիկոլսը, նշում է, որ իրենք կապված են որպես դաունի սինդրոմով տառապող երեխայի ծնողներ: «Մենք ձգտում ենք աշխարհը դարձնել շատ ավելի հյուրընկալ և ներառական մեր երեխաների և այն խմբի համար, որին նրանք պատկանում են: Այդ նպատակով մենք կիսում ենք ռեսուրսները, կիսում մեր ցավը, դաստիարակում միմյանց և առաջնորդում»,- ասել է նա և հիշեցրել, որ երբ Ֆորեսթը նորածին որդու' Լեոյի հետ, մեկնում էր Հայաստանից դեպի հայրենի Նոր Զելանդիա, որն ավելի աջակցող և հյուրընկալ է հաշմանդամություն ունեցող երեխաների հանդեպ, նրա նպատակն էր հավաքել 60 հազար դոլար: «Ձեր պատմությունը տեղադրելով համացանցում' Ձեզ հաջողվեց հավաքել նպատակադրված գումարից 440 հազար դոլար ավելի:

Միաժամանակ, իր նամակում Մարիա Նիկոլսը թվարկել է այն հատատությունների և կազմակերպությունների կայքէջերի լինքերը, որոնց միջոցով նա կարող է իրականցնել իր մտադրությունը և օգնել այլ հաշմանդամություն ունեցող հայ երեխաների: Դաունի սինդրոմով երեխայի մայրը, ով խուլ է, հորդորում է գումար չտալ Հայաստանի մանկատներին, որպեսզի այդ կերպ չօժանդակեն «ինստիտուցիոնալիզմի հավերժացմանը, որն իրենք այդքան ձգտում են փոխել»:
2015 թվականի փետրվարի սկզբին չորս տասնյակից ավելի միջազգային լրատավամիջոցներ անդրադարձան նորզելանդացի հայրիկի պատմությանը, որտեղ Ֆորեսթը, մասնավորապես, հայտնել էր, որ իր հայ կինը հրաժարվել է դաունի համախտանիշով ծնված իրենց նորածին երեխայից: Նորզելանդացի տղամարդն ամուսնացել էր Հայաստանի քաղաքացի Ռուզան Բադալյանի հետ 18 ամիս առաջ, և նրանք ամուսնալուծվել էին իրենց երեխայի' Լեոյի ծնունդից մեկ շաբաթ հետո: Այն բանից հետո, երբ մայրը հրաժարվել է երեխայից, Սամուել Ֆորեսթը որոշել է վերադառնալ հայրենիք ու այնտեղ խնամել Լեոյին, քանի որ Նոր Զելան դիայում Դաունի համախտանիշ ունեցող երեխաները գնում են սովորական մանկապարտեզ, դպրոց, հետագայում աշխատանք գտնելու հնարավորություններ ունեն և լիովին ներառված են հասարակության մեջ: Լրատվամիջոցներին տված իր հարցազրույցներում նա ասել է, որ հայ ծնողները կարծրատիպային պատկերացումներ ունեն իրենց երեխաների հանդեպ ու, երբ փոքրիկները տարբեր են լինում իդեալական երեխայի կերպարից, ծնողները լքում են նրանց: Բացի դրանից, նա ասել է, որ հայ ծնողները վախենում են հասարակական կարծիքից:
Հայրը նախաձեռնել է «Bring Leo Home» անվանումով դրամահավաքն, որի արդյունքում հավաքվել է մոտ 500 հազար դոլար: Նվիրատվություն է կատարել 15 հազարից ավելի մարդ:
Դաունի համախտանիշով փոքրիկ Լեոյին կյանք տված Ռուզան Բադալյանը հետգայում իր ֆեյսբուքյան էջում ներկայացրել է իր տեսակետը' նշելով, որ իր որդու համար ընտրել է բարեկեցիկ կյանքը:
