 Ռոդ Այլենդի նահանգի նախկին նահանգապետ Լինկոլն Չեյֆին պաշտոնապես պայքարի մեջ է մտել ԱՄՆ-ի բարձրագույն պետական պաշտոնի համար: Այդ մասին նա հայտնել է հունիսի 3-ին:

Առլինգտոնում (Վիրջինիայի նահանգ) ունեցած ելույթի ժամանակ նախկին նահանգապետը նշել է, որ ձգտելու է երկրի նախագահի պաշտոնի թեկնածու առաջադրվել Դեմոկրատական կուսակցությունից: Չեյֆին եղել է Հանրապետական կուսակցության անդամ եւ այդ կազմակերպությունից ընտրվել Է ԱՄՆ-ի Կոնգրեսի Սենատում, այնուհետեւ իրեն հայտարարել է անկախ քաղաքական գործիչ, իսկ 2013 թվականին հայտարարել է դեմոկրատների կուսակցությանը պատկանելու մասին: Նա միակ հանրապետական սենատորն էր, որը 2013 թվականին դեմ քվեարկեց Իրաքում ամերիկյան զորքերի օգտագործմանը:

Դեմոկրատների ճամբարում նախագահական հավակնությունների մասին հայտարարել են նաեւ ԱՄՆ-ի նախկին պետքարտուղար Հիլարի Քլինթոնը եւ Մերիլենդի նահանգի նախկին նահանգապետ Մարտին Օ՛Մելին: Վերմոնտի նահանգից անկախ սենատոր Բեռնարդ Սանդերսը, որը ձեւականորեն չի պատկանում կուսակցություններից որեւէ մեկին, նույնպես հայտարարել է, որ հավակնում է ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահի թեկնածու առաջադրվել Դեմոկրատական կուսակցությունից:
