 Նյու Մեքսիկոյի նահանգում օգոստոսի 10-ին արտակարգ դրություն Է հայտարարվել Սան Խուան գետի ավազանում բնապահպանական աղետի պատճառով : Ինչպես տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը, համապատասխան որոշումն ընդունել Է նահանգապետ Սյուզանա Մարտինեսը: 

«Մեզ մոտ բնապահպանական աղետ Է,- հայտարարել Է նա:- Իրադրությունը պարզապես սոսկալի Է»:

Օգոստոսի 5-ին ոսկու արդյունահանման Gold King Mine հանքահորի պատնեշի վրա Կոլորադոյի նահանգի Շրջակա միջավայրի պահպանության գործակալության աշխատանքների ժամանակ քանդվել Է ամբարտակի մի հատվածամասը: Դրա հետեւանքով տեղի Է ունեցել թունավոր ջրի արտահոս Անիմաս գետ՝ Սան Խուան գետի վտակ:
