Սենատում դեմոկրատական փոքրամասնության առաջնորդն է դառնալու Նյու Յորքի սենատոր Չակ Շումերը, խմբակցության քարտուղար, Սենատում երկրորդ ավագ դեմոկրատ կդառնա Դիք Դուրբինը Իլինոյսից, իսկ առաջնորդի օգնական՝ Վաշինգթոնի սենատոր Փաթթի Մյուրեյը, փոխանցում է «Ամերիկայի ձայնը»։

Դեմոկրատները նոյեմբերի 16-ին փակ քվեարկության արդյունքներով միաձայն ընտրել են Շումերին։ Նա փոխարինելու է Նեւադայի սենատոր Հարրի Ռիդին, որը հունվարին հրաժարական է տալու Սենատում 30 տարվա աշխատանքից հետո։

Շումերի խոսքով դեմոկրատները համագործակցելու են Դոնալդ Թրամփի հետ այն հարցերում, որտեղ նրանց կարծիքները համընկնում են, ու ձգտելու են հակազդել նրան այն դեպքերում, երբ իրենց կարծիքով ոտնահարվում են ամերիկյան արժեքները կամ արգելակվում է առաջընթացը։
