Թեյը պետք է հաճելի և ոչ սուր բուրմունք ունենա, առանց կողմնակի հոտերի (փոշու, բորբոսի, խոնավության): Որակյալ թեյն ունի ամբողջական տերևներ` ոլորված տեսքով: Տերևները պետք է լինեն գրեթե նույն չափսի և ձևի: Որքան շատ են նրանում փշրված տերևները, այնքան ցածր է թեյի որակը:
