Աշխարհում այսօր «կպչուն մտքի նևրոզը» նևրոզների ամենատարածված ձևերից մեկն է: Ցանկացած մարդ կարող է ունենալ այս խանգարումը՝ չեզրակացնելով անգամ դրա մասին: Կպչուն մտքերը կամ, ինչպես հոգեբուժության մեջ են անվանում, օբսեսիվ-կոմպուլսիվ (օբսեսիա՝ մտքերի և կոմպուլսիա՝ արարքների տեսքով) խանգարումը նման է գլխում «անդադար հնչող երաժշտության»: Այն նման է վատ սովորության, որից դժվար է կտրվել, և այն արգելելու յուրաքանչյուր փորձից հետո նրա ուժը եռապատկվում է: Մտքերի տեսքով ցանկացած կպչունություն կարող է ուղեկցվել ֆիզիկական սիմպտոմներով՝ հաճախասրտություն, անքնություն, հիշողության կորուստ և այլն: Կպչուն մտքերի օրինակներ են՝ «Իմ տանը պետք է լինի իդեալական մաքրություն», «Ես ունեմ անբուժելի հիվանդություն», «Ես մոռացել եմ փակել դուռը, անջատել հեռուստացույցը....»:
Կպչուն արարքները հիշեցնում են ռիտուալների, որը մենք կատարում ենք կպչուն մտքերից ազատվելու համար: Ավելին՝ մեզ թվում է, որ «մոգական գործողությունը» կօգնի ինչ-որ ժամանակ շեղել մեր ուշադրությունը և ազատվել կպչուն մտքից:
