Ինչպե՞ս կարելի է օգտագործել ատաղձագործի դազգահը: Խաղաղ ժամանակ, օրինակ, կարելի է հարյուրավոր արկղեր պատրաստել, որ մանդարինի առատ բերքը վաղեմի հարևանդ տեղափոխի շուկա: Բայց պատերազմի ժամանակ այն ավելի շատ պետք կգա դագաղ տաշելու նպատակով:

Աբխազների կողմից կռվող չեչեն վարձկանների ու վրացական ջոկատի բախումից մազապուրծ Նիկան ու Ահմեդը Իվոյի տանն են, էստոնացի ծերուկը փրկել է նրանց կյանքը ու պայման դրել՝ իր տան ներսում ոչ մի թշնամություն: Իսկ թշնամիներն ուզո՞ւմ են թշնամություն անել, ու միթե մարդկայնությունն էնքան խորն է թաղված, որ անհնար է զտել պատերազմի պարտադրած մակնիշներից:
Կաղացող ոտքը դիալոգներում պաթոսի առատությունն է, բայց սիրողի համար դա գուցե արդարացված է: Մանավանդ, որ վարպետորեն համեմվում է նուրբ հումորով ու հուզականությամբ: Առանձին ծափահարություններ են ուզում օպերատորական աշխատանքը, երաժշտական ձևավորումն ու դերասանների աչքերում պատերազմի թողած անսահման հոգնածության հետքը:
Զազա Ուրուշաձեի «Մանդարինները» պատերազմի մասին այն ֆիլմերից մեկն է, որ կարելի է դիտել արցունքների միջից ժպտալով: Եթե իհարկե ուշադրություն չդարձնես մի քանի տխրեցնող հանգամանքների վրա: Իսկ դրանք, շատ ափսոս, ակնհայտ են:
Շատ է զգալի, որ ֆիլմը նկարահանել է վրացի ռեժիսոր, էստոնական ֆինանսավորմամբ և դեռ վերջնական լուծում չստացած հակամարտության մասին: Վրաց-աբխազական կոնֆլիկտի մասին ֆիլմում միմյանց հակադրել չեչենի ու վրացու՝ մի տեսակ տարօրինակ է, ու թվում է՝ մի պատճառաբանություն կարող է ունենալ: Վրացական ֆիլմում աբխազը չէր կարող լինել էն հերոսը, որը մարդկայնություն դրսևորի: Էս հետևությունը գալիս են փաստելու նաև երկու դրվագներ, որտեղ աբխազ անջատողականները ներկայացվում են, մեղմ ասած, ոչ դրական լույսի ներքո:
Ցավն էն է, որ պատերազմը իրոք ամեն ինչի նշանակությունն է փոխում, էդ թվում նույնիսկ արվեստի:
