Աշխատանքային այցով Ժնեւում գտնվող ՀՀ Ազգային ժողովի փոխնախագահ Էդուարդ Շարմազանովը Միջխորհրդարանական միության 131-րդ վեհաժողովի շրջանակում հոկտեմբերի 13-ին հանդիպում է ունեցել Ավստրալիայի խորհրդարանի ներկայացուցիչների պալատի նախագահ, Միջխորհրդարանական միությունում Ավստրալիայի պատվիրակության ղեկավար Բրոնվին Բիշոփի հետ:
ԱԺ փոխնախագահն արձանագրել է, որ միջպետական հարաբերությունների զարգացման գործում այսօր իր ուրույն տեղն ունի միջխորհրդարանական համագործակցությունը: Նա նկատել է, որ միջխորհրդարանական կապերի ընդլայնման եւ ամրապնդման գործում լավ հիմք կարող են ծառայել փոխայցերը: Բրոնվին Բիշոփն իր հերթին կարեւորել է երկու խորհրդարանների միջեւ համագործակցության խորացումը:
Էդուարդ Շարմազանովը դրական է գնահատել Ավստրալիայի հավասարակշռված եւ անկողմնակալ դիրքորոշումը Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի հակամարտության կարգավորման հարցում: Նա իր երախտագիտությունն է հայտնել Ավստրալիայի Նոր Հարավային Ուելս նահանգի օրենսդիր մարմնին 2012 թվականին Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի Հանրապետության անկախության եւ Արցախի ժողովրդի ինքնորոշման իրավունքի ճանաչման համար:
ԱԺ փոխնախագահը գոհունակությամբ նշել է, որ 1997 թվականին Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը համապատասխան բանաձեւով դատապարտվել է Նոր Հարավային Ուելսի օրենսդիր մարմնի կողմից: Էդուարդ Շարմազանովն ընդգծել է, որ Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը ոչ միայն հայ ժողովրդի, այլեւ ողջ մարդկության դեմ ուղղված հանցագործություն էր, եւ նման ոճրագործությունների ճանաչումը եւ դատապարտումը կարեւոր է դրանց hետագա կանխարգելման համար: Էդուարդ Շարմազանովը հույս է հայտնել, որ Ավստրալիայի խորհրդարանը կքննարկի Հայոց ցեղասպանության դատապարտման հարցը:
