Թուրքիայի գլխավոր ընդդիմադիր Ժողովրդահանրապետական կուսակցությունը (ԺՀԿ) որոշել է դատական հայց ներկայացնել նախագահի թեկնածու, գործող վարչապետ, իշխող «Արդարություն եւ զարգացում» կուսակցության (ԱԶԿ) առաջնորդ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանին' NTV հեռուստատեսությամբ ելույթում հայերի հասցեին վիրավորական արտահայտություն թույլ տալու համար:
Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը` վկայակոչելով CNNTurk հեռուստաալիքի լրատվական կայքը, Էրդողանին դատի տալու մասին հայտարարել է ԺՀԿ Քոջաելիից ընտրված պատգամավոր Հուրշիթ Գյունեշը: Նա պնդել է, որ NTV-ում հայերին վիրավորելու փաստը վարչապետ Էրդողանի կողմից կատարված «լեզվական վրիպում չէ»: «Դա թշնամական պահվածք է», -ասել է նա եւ նշել, որ Էրդողանի այդ արտահայտությունը Թուրքիայի քրեական օրենսգքրով հանցագործություն է, եւ վարչապետը ատելություն դրսեւորելու հանցանք է կատարել: Թուրք պատգամավորը հայտարարել է, որ դատական հայց են ներկայացնելու Էրդողանի դեմ:

Թուրքական ԶԼՄ-ներն այդ առնչությամբ հայտնել են, որ Թուրքիայի վարչապետի այդ հայտարարությունն առաջացրել է թուրքական հասարակության որոշ շրջանակների զայրույթը: Վերջիններս Էրդողանի խոսքը բնութագրել են ռասիզմ եւ վիրավորանք' ուղղված Թուրքիայի ազգային փոքրամասնությունների հասցեին: Իրավապաշտպան միջազգային կազմակերպությունները բազմիցս մեղադրել են Էրդողանին ռասիստական արտահայտություններ անելու եւ հասարակությունում միջէթնիկական եւ միջկրոնական բախումներ հրահրելու մեջ:
Թուրքական NTV հեռուստաալիքի «Խոսում են թեկնածուները» ծրագրի ուղիղ եթերում ելույթում Էրդողանը հայտարարել է, որ իր քաղաքական գործունեության ընթացքում ԶԼՄ-ները բազմիցս իր նկատմամբ վիրավորական արտահայտություններ են հնչեցրել' իրեն հայտարարելով հույն, վրացի, քուրդ եւ այլն: Ուղիղ եթերում նա ասել է, որ մի ժամանակ իրեն անգամ «հայ» են անվանել: Նշելով, որ ինքը թուրք է, Էրդողանն ասել է. «Մի քանիսն ինձ վրացի անվանեցին, նույնիսկ ավելի կեղտոտ բաներ ասողներ եղան. ինձ հայ անվանեցին, ես հորս եւ պապիս կողմից թուրք եմ: Ծագումով Ռիզեից եմ, ծնվեÕ ¬ եւ մեծացել եմ Ստամբուլում»:
Թուրքական ԶԼՄ-ներն ավելի վաղ հայտնել էին, որ Էրդողանի հայրը ծագումով չերքեզ է, մայրը' հրեական խառնուրդով թուրք, նրա կնոջ հայրը ազգությամբ թուրք է, իսկ մայրը' արաբ:
