2014թ. օգոստոսի 26-ին ձերբակալվել է «Վանաձոր ԲԿ» ՓԲ ընկերության վիրաբուժական բաժանմունքի վարիչ Վլադիմիր Ղուկասյանը, ով կասկածվում է Դ. Հովակիմյանի բուժման ընթացքում մասնագիտական պարտականությունների նկատմամբ անբարեխիղճ վերաբերմունք դրսեւորելու եւ դրանք ոչ պատշաճ կատարելու հետեւանքով անզգուշությամբ բուժվող հիվանդի մահն առաջացնելու մեջ:

Դատախազության մամուլի ծառայությունից հայտնում են, որ դեպքը տեղի էր ունեցել 2013 թվականի հոկտեմբերի 12-ին.    կրծքավանդակի ծակած-կտրած թափանցող վերքով «Վանաձորի բժշկական կենտրոն» էր տեղափոխվել Երեւան քաղաքի բնակիչ, անչափահաս` Դ. Հովակիմյանը` ով Վանաձորում մասնակցում էր ձեռքի գնդակի հանրապետական մրցաշարին:

Դ. Հովակիմյանի մահվան պատճառի հետ կապված կրկնակի հանձնաժողովային դատաբժշկական փորձաքննության եզրակացությամբ հաստատվել են նախորդ փորձաքննությամբ արձանագրված բացթողումներն ու թերությունները, ինչպես նաեւ այն, որ «Վանաձոր ԲԿ» ՓԲ ընկերությունում Դ. Հովակիմյանին բուժօգնության ցուցաբերման թերությունները եւ բացթողումները գտնվում են պատճառահետեւանքային կապի մեջ նրա մահվան հետ, որոնց առավել վաղ իրականացումը զգալիորեն կմեծացներ բարենպաստ ելքի հավանականությունը՝ հնարավորություն ընձեռելով փրկել Դ. Հովակիմյանի կյանքը:

Դ. Հովակիմյանի սպանության մեջ մեղադրվող Կարեն Կունգուրցեւին` ՀՀ քր. օրենսգրքի 104 հոդվածի 1-ին մասով նախկինում առաջադրված մեղադրանքը փոփոխվել է, նրան նոր մեղադրանք է առաջադրվել ՀՀ քրեական օրենսգրքի 34 -104 հոդվածի 1-ին մասով:

Նախաքննական մարմինը որոշում է կայացրել ՀՀ քրեական օրենսգրքի 130-րդ հոդվածի 2-րդ մասով /Հ. 130. Բժշկական օգնություն եւ սպասարկում իրականացնողների կողմից մասնագիտական պարտականությունների չկատարելը կամ ոչ պատշաճ կատարելը / քրեական գործը հարուցելու եւ այն առանձին վարույթում առանձնացնելու մասին:
