«Քարնեգի» հիմնադրամի ավագ աշխատակից, Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի հակամարտության մասին «Սև այգի» գրքի հեղինակ Թոմաս Դե Վաալը BBC-ում հոդված է հրապարակել ադրբեջանական օդուժի կողմից հայկական ուղղաթիռի խոցման առնչությամբ: «Արմենպրես»-ի փոխանցմամբ' «Հայաստանն ու Ադրբեջանը նոր պատերազմի եզրին» հոդվածում դե Վաալը, գրում է, որ ուղղաթիռի խոցումը ամենալուրջ միջադեպն է հրադադարի մասին համաձայնագրի կնքումից հետո: Դե Վաալն իրավիճակն անվանել է «անկայուն հրադադար» և մտավախություն հայտնել, որ մթնոլորտն այնքան լարված է , որ յուրաքանչյուր պահի կարող է պատերազմ սկսվել: «Երեք հայ է զոհվել, իսկ ադրբեջանցի սպան, ով խոցել էր ուղղաթիռը, խիզախության համար արժանացել է մեդալի: Սա շատ մտահոգիչ զարգացում է և կարող է բերել դեպքերի զարգացման ինչպես եղավ ամռանը, երբ կողմերն ունեցան 20 զոհ»,- գրում է դե Վաալը' հավելելով, որ ուղղաթիռի խոցումը զուրկ էր ռազմական տրամաբանությունից:
«Տեղում զորքերի հրամանատարը կարող է պատասխանատու լինել հրաձգային զենքի կիրառման համար, սակայն ավելի ծանր զինտեխնիկա օգտագործելու մասին որոշումը կայացնում է քաղաքական ղեկավարությունը: Այս գրոհը կարելի է դիտարկել որպես ուժի ցուցադրում: Ընդհանրապես, ուղղաթիռի խոցումը զուրկ էր ռազմական տրամաբանությունից»,- ասել է նա:
Ըստ նրա՝ 1991-1994 թթ. ղարաբաղյան պատերազմում պարտված ադրբեջանական կողմը մեծ հիմքեր ունի «անկայուն հրադադար» պահպանելու համար: «Այդպես Բաքուն փորձում է հիշեցնել աշխարհին, որ երկրի տարածքի մի մասը Հայաստանի հսկողության տակ է: Բռնության նոր բռնկումը հիշեցում է, որ կողմերին միշտ մի քայլ է բաժանում նոր պատերազմից և միայն սեփական շահերի իրենց գնահատումը կոնկրետ իրավիճակում դեռևս զերծ է պահում նրանց այդ վերջին քայլից: Եվ հիմա կա հայկական կողմի պատասխան հարվածի վտանգը. Երևանն արդեն սպառնացել է, որ պատասխանը «ցավոտ է լինելու»,- գրել է դե Վաալը:
Ղարաբաղա-ադրբեջանական սահմանի արևելյան հատվածի օդային տարածքում նոյեմբերի 12-ին' ժամը 13.45-ի սահմաններում, ուսումնավարժական թռիչքի ժամանակ ադրբեջանական ԶՈՒ-ի կողմից հրադադարի ռեժիմի խախտման արդյունքում խոցվել է ԼՂՀ ՌՕՈւ ՄԻ-24 ուղղաթիռը: Խոցման վայրը շփման գծին չափազանց մոտ է: Հակառակորդը շարունակում է տարբեր տրամաչափի հրաձգային զենքերից ինտենսիվ կրակ բացել դեպքի վայրի ուղղությամբ: Անձնակազմի հրամանատարն է եղել մայոր Սերգեյ Սահակյանը: Մյուս երկու զինծառայողներն էին լեյտենանտ Ազատ Սահակյանը և ավագ լեյտենանտ Սարգիս Նազարյանը: Ադրբեջանական կողմը կրակահերթի տակ է պահում հատվածն ու հայկական կողմը չի կարողանում փրկարարական աշխատանքներ իրականացնել:
