Շոտլանդիայի ազգային կուսակցության (ՇԱԿ) ղեկավարի պաշտոնում նշանակված Նիկոլա Ստերջենը չի բացառում Շոտլանդիայում անկախության նոր հանրաքվեի անցկացումը: Այդ մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում է «Արմենպրես»-ը, նա հայտարարել է կուսակցության՝ Պերտ քաղաքում բացված համագումարում:
«Ես չեմ պլանավորում անհապաղ անցկացնել անկախության նոր հանրաքվե,-հայտարարել Է Ստերջենը:-Հանրաքվեն կանցկացվի այն ժամանակ, երբ դա կցանկանա Շոտլանդիայի ժողովուրդը: Ոչ ոք չի կարող հանրաքվե պատադրել ժողովրդի կամքին հակառակ: Ես հավատում եմ, որ Շոտլանդիան կդառնա անկախ պետություն, բայց երբ դա տեղի կունենա՝ կախված Է ժողովրդի ցանկությունից»: Նա չի բացառել, որ նոր կամաարտահայտումը կարող Է կայանալ ՇԱԿ-ում իր նախագահության օրոք:
«Ես՝ որպես ՇԱԿ-ի առաջնորդ, հսկայական պատասխանատվություն եմ զգում,-նշել է Ստերջենը:-Շոտլանդիայի անկախության հանրաքվեին նախապատրաստվելու ընթացքում զգալիորեն ավելացել Է կուսակցության կազմը, այժմ մենք անդամների թվաքանակով Շոտլանդիայի խոշորագույն կուսակցությունն ենք եւ երրորդը՝ Մեծ Բրիտանիայում: Հարցումների համաձայն՝ մենք Շոտլանդիայում առաջատարն ենք Մեծ Բրիտանիայի առաջիկա խորհրդարանական ընտրություններում»:
Վերջին քսան տարում ՇԱԿ-ը գլխավորած եւ նրան իշխանության բերած Սալմոնդը իր պաշտոնաթողության մասին հայտարարել Է սեպտեմբերի 18-ին Շոտլանդիայի անկախության հանրաքվեում կրած պարտությունից հետո: Հաջորդ շաբաթ Ստերջենը կզբաղեցնի Շոտլանդիայի կառավարության առաջին նախարարի պաշտոնը, որն ազատվել Է Սալմոնդի հեռանալու կապակցությամբ:
Մինչդեռ Սալմոնդը չի լքում մեծ քաղաքականությունը: Նրա շրջապատում չեն բացառում, որ գարնանը նա կընտրվի բրիտանական խորհրդարանի Համայնքների պալատում, որպեսզի հետագայում Էլ աշխատի Շոտլանդիայի անկախության համար, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
