Ադրբեջանում 2001-2004 թվականներին Թուրքիայի դեսպան Ունալ Չեւիքոզը կոչ է արել բացել թուրք-հայկական սահմանը:
Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը, թուրքական «Հուրիեթ» թերթում հրապարակած հոդվածում Չեւիքոզը գրել է, որ Անկարայի եւ Երեւանի միջեւ փակուղի մտած նորմալացման գործընթացը հնարավոր է, որ առաջ ընթանա միմիայն Թուքիայի կողմից «նոր նախաձեռնությամբ հանդես գալու» դեպքում:
«Կարեւոր չէ, թե ինչեր տեղի կունենան, եւ երկու երկրները ինչպես ոտք կդնեն 2015 թվական: Պարզ է, որ այդ ժամկետը ճանապարհի վերջը չէ: Կարեւորն այն է, որ Թուրքիան եւ Հայաստանը որոշեն, թե ինչպիսին է լինելու իրենց հարաբերություններն այդ ժամկետից հետո: Խաղի կանոնները փոփոխող նոր իրավիճակ է անհրաժեշտ», -նշել է նա:
Չեւիքոզի կարծիքով' Կովկասում առաջատար դերը վերականգնելու համար Թուրքիան պետք է հանդես գա փակուղային վիճակից դուրս գալուն օգնող նոր նախաձեռնությամբ: Ըստ նրա' դրա միակ ճանապարհը Հայաստանի հետ սահմանները բացելն ու տարածաշրջանում իրավիճակի վրա դրա ազդեցության ստուգումն է:
«Ընդդիմախոսներն ասում են, որ Հայաստանի հետ փակ սահմանները Ղարաբաղի հարցում Հայաստանի վրա Թուրքիայի ճնշումն է: Սակայն, ինչ՞ ճնշման գործիք է դա, եթե 20 տարում չի կարողացել Հայաստանին հարկադրել համաձայնության գալ Ադրբեջանի հետ»,-հարցնում է նախկին դիվանագետը:
Նրա կարծիքով' բաց սահմանները մեծ օգուտ կբերեն Հայաստանին, ինչն էլ լուրջ ճնշման լծակ է հանդիսանալու: «Աստիճանաբար բացելով սահմանները' Թուրքիան կարող է իր հարեւաններին խանդավառել նոր բանակցությունների: Իսկ հետո, գնահատելով ղարաբաղյան գործընթացում ձեռք բերված առաջընթացը, ավելի ֆունկցիոնալ գործիքի կվերածի սահմանի հարցը», -նշում է նա:
Չեւիքոզը գտնում է, որ Թուրքիան պետք է Հարավային Կովկասում բոլոր խաղացողներին «հավասար մոտենա» եւ այդ ճանապարհով ձեւավորի իր արդարացի միջնորդ լինելու հեղինակությունը:
«Հասել է տարածաշրջանում Թուրքիայի կարեւորությունը ցուցադրելու ժամանակը: Եթե Թուրքիան նման վճռականություն ցուցաբերի, Հայաստանն ու Ադրբեջանը եւս կարող են շարունակել նրա ճանապարհը», -համոզմունք է հայտնել նա:
Ադրբեջանում դեսպանի ժամկետը լրանալուց հետո Ունալ Չեւիքոզը Թուրքիայի ԱԳՆ-ում նշանակվել է վարչության պետ: 2007-2010 թվականներին նա եղել է Թուրքիայի ԱԳՆ քաղաքական ծրագրավորման տնօրեն:
