Ուրուգվայի նախագահ Խոսե Մուխիկան մինչ պաշտոնավարման ավարտը հանդիպել է Ուրուգվայի հայ համայնքի անդամներին: Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը' վկայակոչելով CausaArmenia.org-ը, հանդիպմանը Մուխիկան ընդգծել է հայ համայնքի ներդրումն Ուրուգվայում եւ կարեւորել հանգամանքը, որ Ուրու գվայն առաջինն է ճանաչել Հայոց ցեղասպանություն: Մուխիկան, ընդառաջելով հայ համայնքի խնդրանքին, համաձայնել է իր բարձր հովանավորությունը Հայոց ցեղասպանության 100-րդ տարելիցի կապակցությամբ Ուրուգվայում տեղի ունենալիք ձեռնարկներին:
«Գիտեմ, որ թուրքերը կնեղանան, սակայն համոզված եմ, որ Ցեղասպանություն է տեղի ունեցել, և եթե կարող եմ օգտակար լինել՝ սիրով համաձայն եմ ընդունել այդ առաջարկը: Թուրքերը պետք է սովորեն համբերություն ունենալ, աշխարհում, պետք է լինի բազմակարծություն, եւ մենք պետք է հարգենք այն, այլապես հնարավոր չի լինի ապրել»,- ասել է նա' հավելելով, որ նվազագույնը, որ պետք է անի թուրքական պետությունը, ինքնաքննադատության քաջություն ունենալն է՝ ընդունելու կատարված բարբարոսություններ:
Խոսե Մուխիկայի պաշտոնավարման օրոք Հայաստանի եւ Ուրուգվայի հարաբերություններն էլ ավելի ամրապնդվեցին, մի շարք ոլորտներում երկկողմ համագործակցությունն ավելի խորացավ:
Նախագահ Մուխիկայի օրոք Ուրուգվայում օրենք ընդունվեց Մոնտեվիդեոյում Հայոց ցեղասպանության թանգարան կառուցելու վերաբեյալ: Գործում է Ուրուգվայ-Հայաստան խորհրդարանական բարեկամության խումբը: Այս տարվա սկզբին էլ Ուրուգվայի ԱԳ նախարար Լուիս Ալմագրոն հայտարարել էր Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի միջազգային մակարդակով ճանաչման անհրաժեշտության մասին' կարեւորելով ազգերի ինքնորոշման փաստը: Երկկողմ հարաբերություններին նպաստեց նաեւ ՀՀ նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանի 2014թ. հուլիսին կատարած այցը Ուրուգվայ:
2014-ի դեկտեմբերին անցկացված ընտրություններում Ուրուգվայի նախագահ է ընտրվել Տաբարե Վասկեսը, որը պետության ղեկավարի պաշտոնում Խոսե Մուխիկային կփոխարինի այս տարվա մարտի 1-ից:
